finn + me has partnered with women artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico, to create a special capsule collection of collars and Pooch Purses.
The Gomez family has been weaving for centuries. The girls begin weaving around 10 years old , and the family's matriarch has been weaving for 66 years! The family lives in Santo Tomás Jalieza, a small village about an hour outside of Oaxaca City.
The women use a backstrap loom to weave their designs. They tie one side of the loom to a tree, and the other wraps around her waist so she can apply the desired amount of tension on the loom. The bobbin is passed through the warp thread while shifting the warp thread with the machete.
We then bring the women's designs back to the NYC factory, where the gorgeous patterns are hand-sewn onto our luxurious Italian leather collars.
